My weekend……
The movie was entitled Living Proof. It starred Harry Connick Jr. and Regina King amongst a few others. A synopsis of the movie is:
“Living Proof” is the true story of oncologist and researcher Dr. Dennis Slamon, the UCLA doctor who helped develop the breast cancer drug Herceptin, and his effort to keep the drug trials afloat. His inspiring journey shows the sacrifices he makes in his personal life and the obstacles that he faces to get the drug approved. Thousands of lives have been saved because of his dedication. (Based on Robert Bazell’s book “Her-2.”) RenĂ©e Zellweger, Neil Meron and Craig Zadan, and screenwriter Vivienne Radkoff are the executive producers.
It was really a good movie and I teared up a few times. Regina King’s doctor was so dang on cold and callous it made me mad. One of the most interesting parts of the movie was the struggles the doctor went thru to get executives to continue to back his research. And ironically it took one of the executives mother’s bout with Breast Cancer before he could get over a major hurdle.
The characters were very believable and I really felt compassion for those struggling with this disease. I cried and laughed and by the end of the movie I jumped for joy with the storyline. I recommend you check your local listing and catch the movie.
Sunday I had a family meeting to discuss and finalize the details for our upcoming family dinner. Dealing with family can be so………cumbersome at times, is all I’ll say. Here we are trying to put things in motion to bring the family back together and we are being met with so much confusion. At any rate, we are moving forward despite the questions and nit picking.
And then last night……..I saw Musiq with his short self. The venue was nice, cozy and intimate. We arrived much later than we anticipated, it wasn’t my fault. So parking was tricky and then finding someplace to sit and see was just as tricky. Seems some people might have camped out a few hours in advance to get seats up close. At any rate we sat in left hand side of the stage and I thought I’d suffer a hearing loss due to my close proximity to the speakers.
The announcer said no flash photography or recording devices. But damn if several people up front didn’t pull out their digital cameras and snap pictures continuously through out the show. And as the end of the show neared, I pulled out my cell phone and caught a few pictures, nothing up close, and a 30 second video. Oh and I got a hug from him………………
So yeah, I had a good weekend and now I’m back at work.
Hope you had a good weekend……HAPPY MONDAY!

Saucey......
I knew right then and there I just had to try it. One I love salmon and I’d been on the look out for something to do with it at home. And two I simply love sauces, I mean they just add the perfect element to entrees. But of course I usually go overboard and require sauce with every bite.
So Saturday I went home to drop off my bags from Friday night and decided to devise a shopping list to pick up the items needed for this recipe. Yep, I actually had a shopping list.
First I was meeting a friend to loan her my Costco card. Yep, I believe in the sharing plan. As long as there’s no credit attached to my membership card, I’ll lend it to my responsible friends. At any rate I met up with said friend but decided I’d grab a few items as well since I was already there. Boy was I in for a shock, I thought the parking lot was BEAST, the lines were INCREDIBLE HULK busting at the seams. I handed my card over to my friend, threw the deuces up and walked out.
Next stop was the grocery store to pick up the items needed for this new sauce.Yum. Since I was in VA, I decided to hit up the Shoppers in Pentagon Row. And boy was that costly. It always amazes me how items at the same chain store cost different. This trip cost me $30.86……….and I still needed two more items. So head back around my way and grab those last items and get in the house to brew up my sauce. And might I say YUM again.
Yeah, I typed all of this up to say the sauce was that dang on good.

Perplexed no more
And now I’m sipping on hot Plantation Mint tea as if I don’t have schedules to prepare. In fact said schedules are due by C. O. B. today and it’s after 4 now……I’m such a slacker. But I must admit I work fairly well under pressure.
I just wanted to comeback and note the update……..now let me get to cracking.

Perplexed???

Now here I am, 5 months and so far the bank recs have been relatively easy. But August is a dozy and now I’m perplexed. I was here until 6:30 last night trying to figure it out and I figured I’d go home last night and pull out my old textbook and get a brief refresher. Well guess what I did when I got home………watch TV. Yikes…….so back at work now and I am still stuck.

Eventually I’ll either figure it out or go have my supervisor come in and help me with the tricky part I’m seeing. I know it’s simple but it’s one of those things that when you don’t see it on a consistent basis, you forget how you handled it previously.
Ok, so I’m off to settle this perplexed matter. Wish me luck in getting it on my own!

Have a great day.

.55 to .65

The vendor machine prices have gone up. The 25 cent size chips were 55 cents, but now they are up to 65 cents........this is a sure fire sign I need to continue brining in my own snacks......this is crazy......bad as I want a bag of Doritos, I REFUSE to pay 65 cents.......
It’s been a minute…..
Hubby calls about an hour after I’d been in the room to say someone broke into his car…….busted the back passenger window and that created a long crack in the front window shield. So of course the rest of our weekend was a blower.
Saturday morning I got up watched some tv and call my niece to sing happy birthday to her. Of course she asked me to come pick her up. But I didn’t feel up to going thru the motions with her mother so I let that be for the day.
I finally left the hotel about 12 and headed to Arundel Mills with intentions on catching a matinee. But I couldn’t decide what to see, so I walked around for a few. I wound up in Bass with a pair of shoes in my hand trying desperately to get out of the store without purchasing them, and I made it. Only to get down to Kasper and buy a suit and some slacks……….after that I was done, it was time to head home. But since gas was cheap 3.09 I decided to fill up and then I even splurged and went thru the car wash.
Sunday, I called niecy again and even went to pick her up. My brother and I arranged for him to get her from me so that he could spend sometime with her for her birthday. Other than that I just watched tv.
Monday was much of the same, watched tv. Although I did leave the house to run to the RedBox since I had a free movie code and got Baby Mama with Tina Fey. Hubby went and got 88 minutes with Al Pacino later on.
Not much was on TV last night, I flipped between Raising the Bar on TNT and My Own Worst Enemy on NBC.
And now I’m here at work. Hope you had a great long weekend and having a great day so far.

Seeking Guidance
Tell me what to do GOD
Tell me what to do GOD
Tell me what to do GOD
Tell me what to do GOD
So while my request resonates in my head I decided pull out my book of "Daily Promises for Women of Color" to find something that might comfort me. I look through the table of contents for something to help me and I come across guidance. Cool, I think this is what I'm looking for. I turn to the pages listed and I go thru the different scriptures listed and then I find this:
Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, "This is the way; walk in it." -Isaiah 30:21
And so I'll wait patiently................

Wishing for – Thursday 13’s - 12th edition
At any rate I’m in a very somber mood today. I have a lot of things going on my mind. Here are 13 wishes I had at this very exact moment:
1. I wish I could provide the help I want to - My youngest brother needs me, I mean really needs me, but I’m not sure if I’ll be able to help him this time and it hurts like HELL
2. I wish I had a spare car.
3. I wish I owned a bigger house.
4. I wish I had family support.
5. I wish my medical issues did not exist or the remedy was attainable.
6. I wish I was in Hawaii with my hubby lying on the beach sipping on a tropical drink.
7. I wish I had moved my 401k to my credit union two months ago.
8. I wish I had a job that is abit more challenging.
9. I wish I was an early morning person.
10. I wish I could think of a great anniversary gift for my hubby.
11. I wish I had a better relationship with my father’s side of the family.
12. I wish this was my last semester in school.

Today's Lunch
So I look in my food drawer, yeah I know I'm corporate ghetto cause I have a food drawer at work, but the drawer had some minute rice I purchased 2 month or so ago. So I says to myself, self, why don't you have some rice.
It comes in a two pack and I paid about $3 for it. It heats up in about a minute. I actually purchased two packages, yellow rice and this one is long grain & wild rice mix. The yellow rice didn't make the cut and is probably the reason this one has sat in my drawer for so long. At any rate I'll let you know in a few how this one tastes.
Hope you have/had a tasty lunch!

No Homecoming for me……
Normally I’d make several trips to T.arget in one week. Well this week I haven’t been at all, or at least not yet. Let's see Monday after work I went to the grocery store, and then yesterday I went back to the grocery store. The total spent between those days amounted to less than $30 which is good considering the state of our economy.
And then to hear that the federal government bail out lead to AIG executives getting treated to a spa. Come on.........tax payers are continuously getting screwed by the government and this is just another example.
You see, I understand that times are hard and as a result I've cut back on some of the luxuries I was use to and yet I didn't get a bail out. And in contrast one company having received financial assistance from the federal government took that as a sign to mean it's back on easy street.
Am I the only one that sees the scale as off balance?

Keeping the number………
Five years later I made the switch to V.erizon wireless. And I settled into their service quite nicely. To date I’ve only had to call and have my bill re-worked on two separate occasions, both my fault because I went over on my allowed minutes majorly.
At any rate, all this time I’ve had the very same number. Yep, I said I wouldn’t change my number because I wanted it to be stability to and for me. No matter how many times I changed physical address (4 since I got the phone) at least my family and friends could count on reaching me via my cell phone because the number has and is a constant.
Well imagine a pleasant surprise when a long lost friend calls me out of the blue this morning. She and I worked together at my very first part time job as a cashier at K.mart. Her and I became fast friends as we often worked the same schedule; Friday nights, all day Saturday and Sunday. We worked there for about 4 years and when we finally left we tried to keep in contact.

Eventually we lost contact, but then I walked into my local grocery store and guess who was there…..yep she was, so of course we exchange numbers again and promised to keep in contact for sure this time. Well after that encounter we actually lost contact two more times and then today’s call. And all because she found my number from one of our many encounters while packing to move.

So I have her cell and home numbers programmed in my cell. And thanks to VW backup assistant, which maintains a list of all my contacts on my phone virtually. I have it programmed to up date daily, in case I have to delete some people.
My friend still works a part time job as well as a full time job so us meeting to catch up will definitely be tricky. But I suggested we plan for next Friday after work. We’ll probably go grab a bite to eat and shoot the breeze.
Welcome back friend!

Good Morning
Hope you had a good weekend and are prepared for this work week.
My weekend was cool. Friday night Mister and I went to the movies to see Eagle Eye. It was really good, lots of action. I don’t want to give anything away, so I’ll just say technology is something else. And with each passing day we become more and more dependent on it and that might not be a good thing.
Saturday I didn’t do much. I went to the movies. I wrote a review on the movie here. Then I went home for a minute or two then I had to get my crabcake fix. So my usual spot was my destination. After that I was back home for the evening. Mister went to a bachelor party, or as he would say “we just hung out at a lounge.” But the next morning I see he has a stack of single dollar bills in his party, so you know what that means……….
Sunday I had a family committee meeting. And as usual it took us all dang on day. We really need to streamline and keep our meetings to about 2 hours. The plans for our first quarterly dinner were finalized, since it’s in November we decided on a Thanksgiving theme. My aunt will pick up some themes decorations. We will meet again in two weeks to ensure the menu is set and we know what each family member is responsible for bringing.
And last night I had to do a rush job of completing and submitting homework, as I procrastinated all week and weekend. I didn’t get a chance to wash and style my hair, nor did I wash clothes. So I’ll be tending to those tasks this week.
Well that’s my weekend recap, hope you had a good one. Have a great day!

"Fireproof" a movie review
So I just got back from seeing the movie. The movie starred Kirk Cameron, you might remember him from the popular 80's tv show Growing Pains. I must first admit that I'm abit torn on this movie. With the exception of Kirk Cameron, the acting was bad. The other characters seemed as if they had just remembered their lines and were reciting them. Oh, and they have these 2 African American women that the stereo typed that made me mad.......cause not all African American women are like that.
Aside from that the message was really good, I can't say that enough. Cameron gave a memorable performance as a husband fighting to get his marriage back on track. Along the way he seeks advice from a co-worker and his father.
It begins with Cameron coming home from a shift at the firehouse where he's the captain. I'm not sure how long their shifts are, but I'm thinking maybe 3 or 4 straight days then a day off. At any rate he comes home to a wife giving him the cold shoulder. They have a disagreement about nothing in particular and it escalates days later to the point of him yelling at her them declaring they want to dissolve the marriage.
Cameron's character then seeks advice from his father on what to do and how to proceed. His father suggests he give it 40 days and follow the instructions in this book he provides. Day one he is instructed to not say anything negative to his wife. Day two's instructions were to do something thoughtful, so he makes her a morning cup of coffee, for which his wife declares she has no time for. Day three is to send some flowers, followed by day four where he has to provide dinner by candlelight. Wifey comes in and shakes her head, goes to her room for a few, then comes back to tell him, "Let me make this clear, I don't love you."
I wont give the rest of the movie away. But I will advise two of my friends to see the movie, as they are in relationships and often have inquiries about being in a committed relationship and or marriage. I found the message to be very pertinent and relevant. And in the end aside from the bad acting, it was indeed a good movie that I would recommend others to see. (MATINEE).

Fwd: Interwoven...we all are
What food might this contain? The mouse wondered. He was devastated to discover it was a mousetrap.
Retreating to the farm yard, the mouse proclaimed the warning : 'There is a mousetrap in the house! There is a mousetrap in the house!'
The chicken clucked and scratched, raised her head and said, 'Mr. Mouse, I can tell this is a grave concern to you, but it is of no consequence to me. I cannot be bothered by it.'
The mouse turned to the pig and told him, 'There is a mousetrap in the house! There is a mouse trap in the house!'The pig sympathized, but said, 'I am so very sorry, Mr. Mouse, but there is nothing I can do about it but pray. Be assured you are in my prayers.'
The mouse turned to the cow and said 'There is a mousetrap in the house! There is a mouse trap in the house!' The cow said, 'Wow, Mr. Mouse. I'm sorry for you, but it's no skin off my nose.'
So, the mouse returned to the house, head down and dejected, to face the farmer's mousetrap . . alone.
That very night a sound was heard throughout the house -- like the sound of a mousetrap catching its prey.
The farmer's wife rushed to see what was caught. In the darkness, she did not see it was a venomous snake whose tail the trap had caught.
The snake bit the farmer's wife. The farmer rushed her to the hospital, and she returned home with a fever. Everyone knows you treat a fever with fresh chicken soup, so the farmer took his hatchet to the farm yard for the soup's main ingredient.
But his wife's sickness continued, so friends and neighbors came to sit with her around the clock. To feed them, the farmer butchered the pig. The farmer's wife did not get well; she died. So many people came for her funeral, the farmer had the cow slaughtered to provide enough meat for all of them.
The mouse looked upon it all from his crack in the wall with great sadness.
So, the next time you hear someone is facing a problem and think it doesn't concern you, remember ---- when one of us is threatened, we are all at risk. We are all involved in this journey called life. We must keep an eye out for one another and make an extra effort to encourage one another.
SEND THIS TO EVERYONE WHO HAS EVER HELPED YOU OUT AND LET THEM KNOW HOW IMPORTANT THEY ARE. REMEMBER. . . . .EACH OF US IS A VITAL THREAD IN ANOTHER PERSON'S TAPESTRY;OUR LIVES ARE WOVEN TOGETHER FOR A REASON.
One of the best things to hold onto in this world is a FRIEND ! ! !

Thursday 13: 11th edition - Sidney Poitier

On weekends in the fall and winter months I'm usually in the house in the bed under my heated blanket. And this fall/winter will be no different. And as such, I'm looking to expand on my movie collection. I'm a real movie buff, but never really got into the older movies. So my first step in remedying that is to add some Sidney Poitier to my collection. He's had a very illustrious movie and tv career so there's so many options.

But here's my list of movies to pick up first:
- Porgy & Bess
- For Love of Ivy
- Uptown Saturday Night
- Let's Do it Again
- They Call Me Mr. Tibbs
- In the Heat of the Night
- A Raisin in the Sun
- Guess Who's Coming to Dinner
- To Sir With Love
- A Warm December
- A Piece of Action
- Brother John
- A Patch of Blue
I suspect I'll have some difficulty locating let alone purchasing some of these, but I'm adamant about adding them so I'll find them.

Peace, Blessings and Laughs
Target robbed me blind.....
I get in the store and grab a cart and stir clear of the women's clothing section. It's normally where I start my shopping. At any rate I head towards the personal items section and the black hair care aisle was calling me. So I had to oblige, and wouldn't you know it Neutrogena Triple Moisture products were on sale. I grab the hair mask and moved on to where I needed to go. I was a woman on a mission to not spend any more money than I needed to. I get to the section, grab what I needed, but there's a sale so I needed to make sure the items I selected were actually on sale.
Next stop was the household cleaning aisle, I wanted to pick up a couple of Glade candles. I then moved on the snack section where I grab a few items, checked prices and made final selections. Last stop was the grocery section. I needed to find something quick for dinner, and I had a taste for one of those Bertolli bag meals.
By the time I made it to the register and had my items rung up my total damage was 71.79....I have a serious love/hate relationship with Target. I have the hardest time running in grabbing what I need and leaving.
You think I have grounds for a lawsuit? LOL
And then I get home a guess what..........wait for it.............I needed to pick up some film from development! So now I have to go back again today. I'm gonna pull my hair out if I spend over $20.
Have a great day!
