You Are 4% Nerdy

You are definitely not nerdy - in fact, you probably don't know any nerds.

You probably care a little too much about your image. No one will know if you secretly watch Star Trek reruns!

Cake and Food pics

I forgot to post this picture of the cake I made for my familyt gathering:

Looks scrumptious doesn't it? I made cupcakes and mini cheesecakes as well, but I didn't get a chance to get a picture of them.

I've been trying to find a class for cake decorating. Yep, I've tried my local Michael's and AC Moore. Both retailers offer the class, however none are convinent for me. So I'll keep looking, until then I'll practice on my own.

Here are pics of food the gathering had to offer:

There wasn't much leftover. In fact, there was barely enough for people to take home. I guess that's a good sign that the food was good.
I think for the next gathering I'll try making another dish in addition to a cake.
Oh, my cousin is planning to have a little something for her birthday in January. I offered to make her a cake and some cupcakes. I think I like baking........or maybe it's the opportunity to practice cake decorating.

Fwd: The Donkey

One day a farmer's donkey fell down into a large well. The animal cried piteously for hours as the farmer looked down into the well and tried to figure out what to do.

Finally, he decided that the animal was way to old, and the well was useless and just needed to be covered up anyway; it just wasn't worth it to retrieve the old donkey.

He invited all his neighbors to come over and help him. They each grabbed a shovel and began to shovel dirt into the well. At first, the donkey realized what was happening and loudly cried.

Then, to everyone's amazement he got very quiet.

A few shovel loads later, the farmer finally looked down the well. He was astonished at what he saw. With each shovel of dirt that hit his back, the donkey was doing something amazing.

He would shake it off and take a step up on the dirt.

As the farmer's neighbors continued to shovel dirt on top of the animal.... he would shake it off and take a step up.

Pretty soon, everyone was amazed as the donkey stepped up over the edge of the well and happily trotted off!

Life is going to shovel dirt on you, all kinds of dirt. The trick to getting out of the well is to shake it off and take a step up each time. Each of our troubles is a steppingstone. We can get out of the deepest wells just by not stopping and never giving up! Shake it off and always take a step up.

Remember some simple rules to be happy:
Free your heart from hatred --- Forgive.
Free your mind from worries --- Most never happen.
Live simply and appreciate what you have.
Give more.
Expect less.

NOW ..........
Enough of that crap ... The donkey about an hour later came back, and bit the farmer who had tried to bury him. The deep gash from the bite got infected and the farmer eventually died in agony from horrid shock.

MORAL FROM TODAY'S LESSON:
When you do something wrong, and try to cover your ass, it always comes back to bite you.

Fwd: Text Messages

I received a few funny text messages over the course of the day and wanted to share them.

Make sure you drink a lot of water today; it’s gonna be a lot of salty crackers out today.

DC was off the hook last night. The democrats were celebrating, and the republican kept calling the police.

They didn’t want to give us 40 acres & a mule, so dammit we will take 50 states and a white house!

Nose in the air

For the better part of the day, I’ve been walking around with my nose in the air. Why, might you ask……well I smell change. The very same change that has been brewing since Barack Obama announced his candidacy for President. And last night, well it was solidified when he was announced the elected president. So yeah, my nose is in the air.

You see I had and gave excuse after excuse for me being a slacker. I wasn’t too serious about things as I should have. I should have pressed forward and harder. Yet, I got complacent and procrastination became the name of my game. But yesterday’s victory will serve to drive me to greater heights and unimaginable success. I always knew the sky was the limit, but Barack serves as tangible evidence that there are NO limits to what and who we can become and achieve.

So from this point going forward, NO EXCUSES!

No more saying: but, can’t, don’t, or won’t……..……those words should be buried from our vocabulary.

My Polling place and stuff

To record this historical moment, I took my camera with me to the polling place to capture some pictures...........

This is the sign leading to my polling place:

This is the beginning of the line:

Seems, folks started lining up at 5 am..........Mister arrived at 6:45, I got there about 7:15.

This is the first sign as you get closer:

You are close at this point:

Signs up on the doors just before you enter:

As you can see the sign prohibits the use of celluar phones.........slim behind us had a wireless earpiece in and was on the phone when we got in area.......poll workers had to tell him he couldn't talk on the phone!

The last sign before entering building:

Overall, not a bad experience..........my feet are aching from the standing, but it was worth it.

My ballot

Yep, I arrived this morning at my polling place with my ballot in hand. I was prepared. The way I saw it, it was either me (Cry_Then_Live) or Barrack...........I think he'd do a better job than me. So he got my vote.

Midterm exam results.....

In checking webtycho today for my online class, I learned that I got a 75 on my midterm. Not bad for waiting to the last minute to do it. Although I expected a little more. Seems that I lost 10 points on one of the 20 points questions, because I didn't comply with the requests. And then I missed one of the multiple choice questions for 4 points, and didn't respond to one question worth 10 points.

Overall the test was very challenging and had I opted to answer one question per day until the exam was due I might have scored higher.

It's about THAT time.....

I've been hesitant about posting something regarding voting tomorrow. Not that I didn't have anything to say.......but more like how and what to say. As I perused blog world, there were countless post urging Americans to vote. So how do I add to that is what I've been contemplating.

So it occurred to me to do my thing and not be concerned about what's going on at and with my fellow bloggers. And with that in mind, I'm gonna make this short sweet and to the point, I won't bore you with how emotional I am right now, because of this historical event I'm honored to participate in, I won't mention how ugly this presidential race has been, I won't mention African Americans in the past were denied the right to vote simply because of the color of their skin. Naw, I'm not gonna mention any of those.........LOL I'll simply do my part and encourage and urge everyone to vote

You Should Live in a Purple State

Your preferences are 45% Blue, 55% Red

You may not be a swing voter, but you feel comfortable around moderate people.

You tend to do best in states with a red and blue mix - like Nevada and North Carolina.

You are adaptable. You can converse with a church crowd as easily as with grad students.

Weekend Recap

I’ll have to begin from most recent and work back……

Yesterday was my family dinner. A few months back I mentioned that with my grandmother’s (paternal) passing, we started a family committee to coordinate family events aiming to keep my grandmother’s memory alive and rebuild our family foundation. And from that we had a really mini summer gathering back in September and then yesterday was our sorta Thanksgiving dinner. Most of the family was in attendance, with the exception of one of my brothers, who was home sick. We had a good time, food and some dancing. I’ll post a few pics of the food and the cake I made later on this evening.

Saturday I had errands to run. Here’s the list of tasks I had to complete:

*Aunt C – drop off paperwork for Cousin R, set up spreadsheet for family dues, pick up Cousin S for chit chat
*Cousin T – drop off pies and facility paperwork
*Library – pickup items on hold
*Target – cupcake carrier, frosting
*grocery store – string beans, broccoli, chicken broth
*Friend B – pick up croc pot

After completing 5 of those, I settled for borrowing a croc pot from my mother in law since she lived closer and it was a 25 minute ride to my friend’s house.
I was home by 7:30 and started my baking assignments. I was making a red velvet cake and cupcakes and mini cheesecakes. My feet were aching by the time I called it a night.

15 minutes before I was set to leave work Friday an e-mail was sent out to the company regarding departmental coverage for voting tomorrow and a reminder for the upcoming holidays with regard to office closures.

Overall I had a cool weekend. My feet are aching from my prolonged walking and standing, but it was worth it to see my family.

Hope you had a good weekend and happy Monday to ya!
