Weekend start

I was off Friday (yesterday) for a doctor's appointment. I wont go into detail about the hassle that took place there. But while in the vicinity I stopped at Bowie Town Center for a little shopping, despite my finances being funny. Barnes and Noble had the Get'em Girls cookbook, but I decided to wait for my funds to rebound before purchasing. Next up was NY & Co.......and I made it out of there without spending a dime.........I'm so dang on proud of myself.

Mister and I was supposed to have lunch, but his schedule was hectic, so back home I headed. I spent the duration of the afternoon perusing the internet and blogs before taking a short nap before The Game @8:30pm.

This morning I didn't get out of bed until 11am......and I really didn't want to get up then. But I figure I'd better start my day. And just as I'm about to kick the day into full swing my electricity went out. So I spent another hour and a half longing and eating sunflower seeds. I know, all that dang on salt..........well I called Pepco and the recorded message said my power would be back on by 6pm! So I was forced to take a candle light shower:

About an hour later the electricity came back on. So I turned on the TV, internet and computer and prepared for a day of perusing the internet/blogs. But then I needed to check my library to see if my books were available for pickup. And this was ready for pick up........:

Yeah, I know I said I was gonna purchase it, but since I still hadn't I decided to see if my local library system had it, and they did so I reserved a copy. I'm still gonna purchase a copy......

And I also picked up these:

So I will definitely have something to watch tonight and tomorrow. I'll return the movies tomorrow by 5 when the library closes. I'll probably do a review of each movie as well.

Anyway.........hope you are having a good weekend!

Thursday 13; 14th edition – MY reasons for voting

Well my last post was on the upcoming election. So keeping in line with that I decided to provide my reasoning for voting in this upcoming election. The most obvious reasons include:

* this being a historical election – the first real chance for an African American man to lead this nation
* people died ensuring all US citizens were allowed to vote; I simply can’t shun that ideology.

At any rate, here are 13 issues/concerns of mine that my candidate should support:

1. economy – tax cuts for the middle class; end tax breaks for companies outsourcing jobs overseas; increase minimum wages

2. education – reform the “No Child Left Behind” law; college credit incentives; we need to recruiting, preparing and retaining quality teachers; public school system needs to be improved

3. healthcare – better structuring of current healthcare system

4. fiscal – government spenders need to be held accountable and spending should be more efficient;

5. poverty – ex-offender programs, affordable housing for low incoming families; tax relief to low income families;

6. seniors: social security – protection needed for social security, affordable healthcare needed for seniors

7. immigration –secure borders; work with countries whose citizens migrate here; crack down on employers hiring illegal immigrants

8. veterans – provide better support, i. e. benefits to those returning from serving

9. improved judicial system

10. better aid for national disasters

11. we need a government we can trust and will take our thoughts and needs into consideration

12. our troops need to be home!

13. CHANGE

Who you think I’m voting for?

Executive Experience needed????

While watching TV last night a commercial came on. It was a spot paid for by the Republican Committee. The commercial stated something to the effect of experience being everything and that Barack Obama has never been any executive experience and do we really want someone who’s never been an executive of a company to be the next executive of our great nation.

Ok, so it got me to thinking………..point well taken. It makes sense. I know I want my hair done by someone that has a cosmetology license with some years of experience. And parents only considered experienced childcare providers to watch their kids. I mean of course we want someone with experience to handle business and make the much needed decisions that will keep this so called great nation alive and kicking.

But then, executives weren’t always executives right, they were new once. At some point in their lives they were wet behind the ears, snotty nosed rugrats right? So allow me to point our some real life examples where experience doesn’t necessarily mean the best decisions were not made.

Bush (current president) had 4 years of presidential experience and in the end of his second 4 years, what’s going on with this so called GREAT nation. Who did that, someone with 4 years of presidential experience.

The mortgage industry is run by executives, and that industry is in a serious crisis now. Who was greedy and decided that predatory lending was the way to go.

In the midst of one of the worse financial crisis this nation has experienced, AIG executives, huummmmm.......cried for help, once they got the help they celebrate by spending almost 450k at a spa with whom in attendance: EXECUTIVES

One more example, what about Enron. Was it not company executives that were brought up on a slew of charges for financial crimes? Nuff said…….

Lastly there’s a saying about the Ark being built by amateurs and the Titanic was built by professionals. But which one sank?

At this point, shouldn’t we consider someone with a vision to relieve the current national strafe, someone with change in mind.

Nov 4, rock your vote, make it count!

Which one????

So I'm sitting here at my desk during my usual afternoon thingys, reading random blogs and my cell rings. I peeped the number and its out of state, do I really want to answer. I decide to pick up and see who is it........and guess who it is.............................verzion wireless........it's a recording, they are calling about my bill, and want me to hold on while they connect me to someone.......yeah, ummmm OK. Of course I hung up with the quickness. I got the e-mail earlier this week listing my outstanding balance, I don't need them to call me. If I'm gonna pay, I'll pay.......otherwise.......

At any rate, so I'm sitting here now debating if I want to use the few extra bucks I have to go shopping at Target or put the money towards my outstanding cell phone bill.......which do I choose.......LOL

Skank sat down! - ATL Housewives

I really didn’t want to waste my energy nor time on writing about this show. And I said I probably wouldn’t watch again, yet last night I was tuned in like a crack addict on payday! I am so ashamed.

Nee-Nee is the muse for the title of this post……..she got on my nerves last night with her coonery act when Kim invited her to come over and hear some songs. How is it Kim is supposed to be your girl, but you didn’t know she wanted to sing????? Yeah ok, we see how far yall go back, about as far as the last time you spoke with her on the phone, a few minutes. So Kim invites the gals to go see her psychic to have her palm read. They all go, but Sheere, Deshawn, and Lisa don’t believe in it so that wont have their palms read. Nee-Nee agrees to have her palm read and the lady spits some true stuff going on with her. Something about a letter and anger surrounding her. And then later on Nee-Nee just so happens to get a letter in the mail that has her questioning who her father is? Ummmmm Nee-Nee, I’m gonna need you to buy your self some sense…….that letter looks like it was written by a 7 year old, how valid could it be? And they mention your living status and your lack of financial support to them?

Sheere……what the hell? She comes off really stuck up. So Deshawn puts Lisa up to asking Sheere to participate in the auctioning at the fundraising event, to which Sheere responds, why didn’t Deshawn ask me. Then Deshawn calls and ask, but Sheere is too busy to hear the details???? Ok that’s possible, but then Deshawn states she’s not asking her again. And I don’t blame her, Sheere was present when the idea was brought up, so she should know the details…….Oh, and Sheere lends supports to her gay hair stylist Lawrence and attends some pageant with him. I won’t mention her asinine comment about not wanting to be someone’s ALL……..no wonder she’s in the mist of a divorce.

Kim, where’s that Cadi Escalade Big Poppa bought you last week? It wasn’t in the garage when you pulled out in your Range Rover? And Kim wants to adopt twin boys? Oh let’s not forget that she 29 and wants to be a country singer…….she evens gets a house visit from producing friend Dallas Austin.

Deshawn, did you really drop a 15k check at a mega church? WOW! She flaunts her wealth a little too much for me. I sure hope it lasts........

Lisa, well she seems to be the most down to earth of the gals. And I don’t have much to say about her from last night’s episode.

Lincoln Heights – recap

I don’t usually do tv show recaps, but last night’s episode of Lincoln Heights was really good and in the end I almost cried.

Lizzie was asked out on her first official date. She’s the youngest of the three Sutton kids, so of course her parents think she’s too young to go out on a date. However they change their minds with some convincing from Cassie, the oldest. But their agreement comes with rules, they wanted to know her every move, she had to stay in the community and she had to be home by sundown. Lizzie thought it was unfair and stomped off.

Her brother Tay is preparing some music with the help of his friend, Johnny. Johnny also has the biggest crush on Lizzie, so when Tay tells him she (Lizzie) is going out on her first date with someone else he’s crushed. Later on, he tells Johnny that Lizzie wont’ be going out afterall, because of the dating rules. Johnny being the dear friend he is tells Lizzie’s date the rules and for him to not clown her when she tells. When her date shows up, Tay records the moment on his video camera since his dad isn’t there. And Johnny escorts her to the door.

Charles’s boss has commissioned Cassie to paint a mural in her studio. Cassie witnesses some flirtatious moments and approaches Charles about it. He reassures her, she’s the only woman for him. But then Charles’s boss asks him to find his own space to continue to work because she needs the space for a bigger project. The boss tells Cassie a totally different story when she inquiries about Charles’ whereabouts. Later on, the boss propositions Charles and asks him to spend a night with her. In the end he agrees only to show up at her door at the designated time with Cassie to give back the tools, the keys to the car she lent him and to quit.

As the show ends, Lizzie is telling her mother and sister about her date when the father walks in and asks where the son is. He then calls out to the son and asks him to come in the room he had something to tell them. There was a hit and run accident and Johnny didn’t suffer………..

Dang, I teared up……….

Damn, Late again

So Mister had a conference or something to attend today. And he had to be there by 7:30. He hit the snooze button several times before finally getting up. And I rolled over and fell back into slumber. You would think that I’d take that opportunity to get up and start preparing for my work day……………no, I had to roll back over as if I didn’t have a job to get to. So I wound up over sleeping and not getting out the door until 10 minutes before I was due at work.

At any rate I’m here……..Hope you have a GREAT day!

You Are Cheese Ravioli

Compared to most people, you are incredibly laid back and fun.

You love loud, crowded dinner tables and cooking with a crowd.

For you, a meal is more about the overall experience than the actual food.

You enjoy fun foods. You love theme dinners and funky appetizers.

Almost missed…and ramblings

I was on the train this morning and was day dreaming and almost missed my stop. I can’t readily recall what I was dreaming of, I just know I was three stops away and then next then you know my stop was next……….

At any rate, top of the morning to ya. I trust that you had a pleasant evening. Mine was just fine, nothing to brag about. I left work yesterday and headed to the library to return a pilates video and my Secret Life of Bees book, only to find out that I could not get the book back because someone else had reserved it. Bummer! So I’m in a sort of sticky situation, cause I’m supposed to participate in the bloggers bookclub discussion of the book in two short weeks.

After the library I headed to the grocery store to pick up a few items. I hate going to the grocery store when I’m hungry and don’t know what I want to eat……..it makes the trip really expensive. I went in for some juice to mix with this weight loss tea I’m drinking and I wound up with several items to the tune of $17 and some change. My juice was only $2.89, go figure.

At home I proceeded to make my Bertolli oven baked four cheese ravioli, which needed 40-60 minutes before it was ready. Another bummer. Not much was on tv, so I settled in to watch Motions 2: Retribution. It starred Vivica Fox and Brian White. This was about the third time I’d sent he movie and still found it interesting. I’ll have to look into purchasing it. I’m sure I have the first part at home amongst my dvd collection.

At 10 was Raising the Bar on TNT, and it didn’t disappoint. But then somehow someway, at 11 I wound up watching some garbage by the name of A Real Chance at Love on VH-1 or was it MTV, either way it was still garbage. I won’t even bother to speaking further on it.

On the plus side of yesterday, Mister called me to tell me he found the case with my flash drives. I’d been wrecking my brain left and right trying to figure out where I’d put them and they were in his car. So I’m glad to find out I’m not as crazy as I thought I was.

Happy Tuesday!

My weekend……

I actually had a good weekend. Friday after work I went home and relaxed watched some TV and called it a night. Saturday, I was supposed to go to a book club brunch but was too lazy to get up. So I lounged for the rest of the morning and complete my homework to be submitted. And then it was time for the wedding. It was a nice ceremony, and the reception…….well we reconvened at Olive Garden. Then mister and I went to see if we could find a pub table and/or floor vase. No luck so we headed back home, then he left to go see the fight, while I stayed home watching a movie on lifetime.

The movie was entitled Living Proof. It starred Harry Connick Jr. and Regina King amongst a few others. A synopsis of the movie is:

“Living Proof” is the true story of oncologist and researcher Dr. Dennis Slamon, the UCLA doctor who helped develop the breast cancer drug Herceptin, and his effort to keep the drug trials afloat. His inspiring journey shows the sacrifices he makes in his personal life and the obstacles that he faces to get the drug approved. Thousands of lives have been saved because of his dedication. (Based on Robert Bazell’s book “Her-2.”) RenĂ©e Zellweger, Neil Meron and Craig Zadan, and screenwriter Vivienne Radkoff are the executive producers.

It was really a good movie and I teared up a few times. Regina King’s doctor was so dang on cold and callous it made me mad. One of the most interesting parts of the movie was the struggles the doctor went thru to get executives to continue to back his research. And ironically it took one of the executives mother’s bout with Breast Cancer before he could get over a major hurdle.

The characters were very believable and I really felt compassion for those struggling with this disease. I cried and laughed and by the end of the movie I jumped for joy with the storyline. I recommend you check your local listing and catch the movie.

Sunday I had a family meeting to discuss and finalize the details for our upcoming family dinner. Dealing with family can be so………cumbersome at times, is all I’ll say. Here we are trying to put things in motion to bring the family back together and we are being met with so much confusion. At any rate, we are moving forward despite the questions and nit picking.

And then last night……..I saw Musiq with his short self. The venue was nice, cozy and intimate. We arrived much later than we anticipated, it wasn’t my fault. So parking was tricky and then finding someplace to sit and see was just as tricky. Seems some people might have camped out a few hours in advance to get seats up close. At any rate we sat in left hand side of the stage and I thought I’d suffer a hearing loss due to my close proximity to the speakers.

The announcer said no flash photography or recording devices. But damn if several people up front didn’t pull out their digital cameras and snap pictures continuously through out the show. And as the end of the show neared, I pulled out my cell phone and caught a few pictures, nothing up close, and a 30 second video. Oh and I got a hug from him………………

So yeah, I had a good weekend and now I’m back at work.

Hope you had a good weekend……HAPPY MONDAY!
