Weekend plans…..

Because my funds a low, my weekend will be spent in the house for the most part. Here’s my agenda:

· Homework & respond to weekly conference
· Hair - wash and style
· Wash clothes
· Library – pick up book
· Cleaners – drop off winter coats
· Write checks for student loan payments
· Clean kitchen
· Clean 2nd bedroom
· Organize living room

Mister and I are going out on a date tonight. We'll do dinner and a movie, not sure where or what movie just yet.

Oh I have Girlfriends season 2, so I'll watch that over the weekend. Looks like I'll have a productive weekend right? Not, I'm sure I'll procrastinate and barely get anything on this list done. Oh well.......

Have a great weekend!

Bail me out!

I haven't been able to fully concentrate on anything interesting to blog about since news of the bailout hit the air waves. I'm totally distruberd and unnerved by this. This move really speaks volumes about our government.

We have vetrans that have fought wars and come home to lack luster healthcare and can barely find a job, but $700 billion will be used to bail out the financial industry..........

Our public schools aren't the best in the world, but $700 billion will be used to bail out the financial industry..........

unemployment is steadily on the rise, but $700 billion will be used to bail out the financial industry..........

countless people are without healthcare, but $700 billion will be used to bail out the financial industry..........

our social security has been screwed up for years, but $700 billion will be used to bail out the financial industry..........

I understand that something has to be done, but $700 billion?????? There are so many other ailments we americans are suffering from and there are no plans for bailout of those. But here we have a case of greedy executives bitting off more than they can chew, creating scams to put more money in their own pockets and middle class america is forced to foot the bill.

Fwd: Never Judge

This is a little something that was sent to me, I found it interesting and inspirational. So I'm posting it.

'Some people!' snorted a man standing behind me in the long line at the grocery store. 'You would think the manager would pay attention and open another line,' said a woman. I looked to the front of the line to see what the hold up was and saw a well dressed, young woman, trying to get the machine to accept her credit card. No matter how many times she swiped it, the machine kept rejecting it.

'It's one of them welfare card things. Damn people need to get a job like everyone else,' said the man standing behind me. The young woman turned around to see who had made the comment. 'It was me,' he said, pointing to himself.

The young lady's face began to change expression.Almost in tears, she dropped the welfare card onto the counter and quickly walked out of the store. Everyone in the checkout line watched as she began running to her car. Never looking back, she got in and drove away.

After developing cancer in 1977 and having had to use food stamps; I had learned never to judge anyone, without knowing the circumstances of their life. This turned out to be the case today.

Several minutes later a young man walked into the store. He went up to the cashier and asked if she had seen the woman. After describing her, the cashier told him that she had run out of the store, got into her car, and drove away.

'Why would she do that?' asked the man. Everyone in the line looked around at the fellow who had made the statement. 'I made a stupid comment about the welfare card she was using. Something I shouldn't have said. I'm sorry,' said the man. 'Well, that's bad, real bad, in fact. Her brother was killed in Afghanistan two years ago. He had three young children and she has taken on that responsibility. She's twenty years old, single, and now has three children to support,' he said in a very firm voice.

'I'm really truly sorry. I didn't know,' he replied, shaking both his hands about. The young man asked, 'Are these paid for?' pointing to the shopping cart full of groceries. 'It wouldn't take her card,' the clerk told him. 'Do you know where she lives?' asked the man who had made the comment.

'Yes, she goes to our church.’ 'Excuse me,' he said as he made his way to the front of the line. He pulled out his wallet, took out his credit card and told the cashier, 'Please use my card. PLEASE!' The clerk took his credit card and began to ring up the young woman's groceries.

Hold on,' said the gentleman. He walked back to his shopping cart and began loading his own groceries onto the belt to be included. 'Come on people. We got three kids to help raise!' he told everyone in line. Everyone began to place their groceries onto the fast moving belt. A few customers began bagging the food and placing it into separate carts. 'Go back and get two big turkeys,' yelled a heavyset woman, as she looked at the man. 'NO,' yelled the man. Everyone stopped dead in their tracks. The entire store became quiet for several seconds. 'Four turkeys,' yelled the man. Everyone began laughing and went back to work. When all was said and done, the man paid a total of $1,646.57 for the groceries. He then walked over to the side, pulled out his check book, and began writing a check using the bags of dog food piled near the front of the store for a writing surface. He turned around and handed the check to the young man. 'She will need a freezer and a few other things as well,' he told the man. The young man looked at the check and said, 'This is really very generous of you.' 'No,' said the man. 'Her brother was the generous one.' Everyone in the store had been observing the odd commotion and began to clap. And I drove home that day feeling very American. We live in the Land of the free, because of the Brave!!! Remember our Troops of Yesterday and Today!!!

A great example of why we should be kind and patient. Kindness is the language the blind can see and the deaf can hear.

May God's many blessings continue to be with you -ALWAYS!!!

MAY THIS KEEP GOING....IT WILL OPEN A LOT OF EYES,HOPEFULLY HEARTS, AND KEEP SOME MOUTHS SHUT.

Anticipating the next Spike joint……

Spike Lee’s new joint Miracle @ St. Anna opens tomorrow September 26. I’m not much in to war films, but I loves me some Spike, so I plan to see it.

And in honor of the new movie, I thought I’d do a Thursday thirteen on Spike Lee joint’s.

Here are my favorite Spike Lee (directed) movies:

1. School Daze – this movie came out the year before I graduated high school and had me highly anticipating college.

2. Do the Right Thing

3. Malcolm X

4. Jungle Fever

5. Mo Betta Blues

6. Inside Man

7. Clockers – two words: Mekhi Phifer, I loves me some him

8. He Got Game

9. Crooklyn

10. Get on the Bus

11. 4 Little Girls

12. When the Levees Broke (documentary)

13. She Hates Me
I didn’t really see She’s Gotta Have It. I did like Girl 6, oh and Original Kings of Comedy was funny as all get out, but it wasn’t really a movie so I didn’t add it to my list.

Voter warning???

Not sure how true this is, but in case there is some truth to it, I didn't want to pass on the opportunity of sharing.......

Please, please, please advise everyone you know that they absolutely canNOT go to the polls wearing any Obama (or whoever you are voting for) shirts, pins, hats, etc. It is AGAINST THE LAW and will be grounds to have the polling officials to turn you away. This is considered campaigning and no one can campaign within X amount of feet of the polls. They are banking on us being overly excited and not being aware of this long standing law that you can bet will be ENFORCED THIS YEAR!!!!!They are banking that if you are turned away, you will not go home and change your clothes and return to the polls to vote. Please just don't wear ANY gear of any sorts to the polls! Please share this information with as many people as you can. If you are already aware of this, please don't take it as insulting your intelligence.

Have a great day and see you at the polls on November 4th.

Vacation booked

Mister finally booked our anniversary trip last night. We’d put it off and toss ideas back and forth. Every time he found something, I’d start looking for something else. And that’s not to say the places he found were bad, just that nothing really excited me. Then funny enough, I came across only two places that excited me:

Temptation Resort & Spa - beachfront, all inclusive, 5 bars, 2 pools, 5 restaurants amongst other amenities. Since we don’t have kids yet, it would have been nice to not have to deal with anyone else’s while on vacation.

Golden Parnassus Resort & Spa - beachfront, all inclusive, 5 bars, 2 pools, 5 restaurants amongst other amenities, pretty much just like Temptation, but pricier.

Price ruled us out on both options. Both would have run about 1200 per person for 5 nights. Then I received an e-mail from apple vacations, and started checking there and came across reasonable options. In the end we booked thru a resort for a pacakage that includes roundtrip air and transfers as well as lodging.

This is the place we booked:

RIU Playacar - beachfront all inclusive resort offering a host of amenities.

We stayed at an RIU resort in Jamaica for our anniversary last year and was pleased, so that played a big part in choosing this resort. My only problem was the small shower/tub, it was smaller than the one I have at home. Otherwise everything was cool. The resort had various activities and the variety of food was sufficient for the pickiest eaters, namely myself.

So we are headed to Cancun Mexico for our anniversary.......I'm overly excited. I'll probably start packing next month. With the associated costs for extra luggage we plan to check in only one bag, and carry on two very small suitcases. And this will require some strategic planning.

Weekend recap…….

I had a good weekend. Of course in my opinion it was too dang on short. I could have used a few extra hours Saturday as well as yesterday.

At any rate, I finally saw Tyler’s new movie…….I thought it was good. I’m surprised at Sanaa’s character; she was really mean and evil. Yeah she could have been worse, but she was wrong on so many levels it made no sense. I simply loved the relationship between Kathy Bates and Alfre Woodard, it made me want to call and reconnect with some friends. And I hear his movie pulled in another 7.5 million and is at number 6 on this weekend’s box office list.

Friday after the movie, I had to get home and get to cleaning, since service people were coming thru the next day. I didn’t get to bed until 1:30 am. And then I was backup by 7:30. So the service people came and was there until about 12:15 or so. I finally left the house about 1 and made my way up to Hagerstown. But I called and was told to just come thru and then we’d all hit the mall together.

When I arrived they were all into some Sci-Fi movie. It was abit creepy. This evil guy was haunting a town and had killed two people and wanted one of the children. The evil guy gave the townspeople the option of all dying or give up one of the eight children for him to raise. The townspeople met and decided to give up of the kids. And how they decided was by a bag of marbles. There were 7 white marbles and one black marble and one parent for each child had to reach in and grab a marble. At any rate the one guy who protested giving in to the demands lost his son. He later left the town. Some years later he wound up seeing his son again he had been turned into a vampire……..it was totally creepy.

The girls and I got into a big debate about it. In my opinion, they should have given up a child. I think parents should be willing to die for their children, and I’d die before I handed my child over to some evil wicked man to rise. At any rate another argument was that in the bible, it states if a man had to choose between his wife and child he should chose his wife, because they can always have another child. Another opinion was that the townspeople should have had faith that all would work out instead of giving up a child for the sake of the other’s lives.

Ok, so moving on…….we finally left and headed to the outlets for some shopping. I didn’t do too bad; I got a skirt suit, two pairs of slacks and a handbag. The handbag was purchased from BCBG for $20, it’s a cute bag I couldn’t pass up for the price.
We left the outlets and headed to the liquor store for some champagne for Sunday morning mimosa’s. But we made a pit stop in Marshall’s for jackets since the temperature was diving. And I found my blue pant suit. Next up was grub time……we headed to Outback steakhouse. After grubbing, we headed out to the casino in Charlestown. But we had an incident with a deer. The deer was well enough to run off into the woods and there was minimum damage to the car.

At the casino, I couldn’t remember the pin numbers for my atm cards, so I had no cash to play with resulting in a short time being spent there. Back at the house we sat around and chatted for about 2 more hours and finally called it a night about 3 am.

Sunday morning/afternoon we had breakfast about 2 pm and decided to watch a few movies. We saw Formula 51, some of Juno and Hard Candy. Hard Candy was too dang on drawn out for me. I think I fell asleep about 7 times and the movie was only 105 minutes. And I readily recall what it was about. Anyway, I got back on the road about 8 pm and was in the house by 9:55pm.

Hope you had a good weekend!
