No Spend February

I'm officially declaring February a no spend month for me. These past few days have been quite costly. Let's see, I purchased the complete series for HBO's The Wire, I paid for my spring semester course, and I signed up for AAA. I wont mention the household items I purchased as well. Yeah, I need at least a month of no spending. And now that I think about it, this month has been an expensive one with Hubby's birthday and all, even though it was planned for.

I've never been one to adhere to a strict budget; instead opting to be mindful of how much I spend and what I spent money on. Pacing my expenditures works best for me. But next month I'm gonna go cold turkey and limit my spending.

These are the items I vow to not purchase during the month of February:

clothes
shoes
accesories
dvd's
cd's
hair products
household - unless we are completely out

There are seven days left in the month, and I'll try to begin Monday. I don't expect to spend much the rest of this weekend, although I might go out tonight and I'm meeting a friend for lunch tomorrow.

Everyday I'll do a post and detail what if any monies were spent.

Welcome to ACCT 495 - Contemporary Issues in Accounting Practice - Spring 2009Congratulations for your educational achievements to date in accounting!

This is a culminating course that builds on concepts and practices learned from your previous accounting coursework. This course is a synthesis of various fields of accounting, e.g., Financial Accounting Managerial Accounting Auditing and Attestation Taxation Advisory ServicesStudents will apply this synthesized body of knowledge to a variety of business cases, emphasizing research, communication of financial information, critical thinking and risk management.

There are no tests or exams, per se, in this class. The evaluation for grading purposes will be based on Cases, Projects and Participation. Please see the Syllabus for more information.

Inaugural Benediction

I've been hoping that the text of the inagurual benediction would be made public and availabel online somewhere and yahoo heard my plea. I enjoyed the ending of Rev Lowery's benediction where he stated:

"Lord, in the memory of all the saints who from their labors rest, and in the joy of a new beginning, we ask you to help us work for that day when black will not be asked to get in back, when brown can stick around ... when yellow will be mellow ... when the red man can get ahead, man; and when white will embrace what is right. That all those who do justice and love mercy say Amen."

So I just had to post it.

Payment due 1/22

I finally registered for my spring 09 semester class last week. I encountered a few problems the week before when I attempted to drop one class and add another class. Somehow the online system had my account as being on hold, but no one else saw the account in that status. I decided to give the system a few days to get some act right, which led to my registering last week. At any rate the payment is due tomorrow 1/22/09......guess when I'm gonna make the payment, yep you guess it tomorrow. I'll wait until minutes before I'm set to leave work and make that payment. Why do folk do that.........LOL

This is the class I'm registered for:

ACCT 495: Contemporary Issues in Accounting Practice (3) (Intended as a final, capstone course to be taken in a student's last 15 credits.) Prerequisites: ACCT 311, 321 and 422 and BMGT 364. A study of accounting that integrates knowledge gained through previous coursework and experience and builds on that conceptual foundation through integrative analysis, practical application and critical thinking. Emerging issues in accounting, business transactions, and financing are considered. Web accounting and business technology, accounting theory, and management techniques are used to research and analyze developing issues in the workplace. Topics include e-commerce, financial derivatives, balanced scorecards, and the changing nature of financial reporting and risk management.

This is also the class I read about on the accounting forum for my school that stated the professor doesn't give a final exam, but requires several papers throughout the semester. I'll take writing papers over an exam any day.......even though I don't like writing papers either, but it's the lesser of the evils.

WOW

Wow, is all I can say right about now. I'm still in a state of awe at today's historical event.

I've been in the house now for about 2 hours and I'm at a loss for words.

I did venture out today to watch the ceremony at Peachez Cafe & Lounge. And I have to admit I almost cried, there were several moments where tears spilled down my face. Other times I had to dab my eyes; it felt good seeing the official transition to a new executive.

And as I sit in the comfort of my home watching the parade, I'm still in awe at the crowds and how many people came out to be apart and witness this historical event.

I'm so grateful and thankful to be alive to experience this historical event.

Inaugural Ceremony

Hubby plans to travel into DC to watch the ceremony. Me? well I have no plans on going anywhere near DC.......I've received a few e-mails from a few places (lounges) that plan to show the ceremony on TV's. So with that I'm left to debate where to go........I could try a new place:

I'm so glad.....

that I had/have these two extra days off........I was hoping for some extra sleep today, but my niece came over last night and she didn't want to go to sleep! She actually fought sleep until 2 am. I had to turn the tv off and leave the room for her to go to sleep. And I'd been out of the room for 5 minutes and came back and she was knocked out. It was really funny.

At any rate, a recap of my weekend so far........a good part of Saturday was spent in the house washing and styling my hair. It took about an 1.5 hour to wash my hair. The conditioner made my hair feeling weighed down, so I had to re-wash and condition. And that created less time for me to do a roller set, which meant my only option was to blow dry........urgh! I don't like wearing my hair straight. But I forged on because I had plans........

The comedy show was due to start at 8, so I ran out the door about 7:45 and I arrived at 8:20pm.......the set up was decent, appetizers and some drinks were included in the $30 price. But all the food was gone by the time I got there. Oh well, I got one drink and it was time for the show. The first two comedians cool.....but the last three were really funny.

The night ended not so well.........I got a flat tire (the same tire that was plugged in Deep Creek Wednesday), there was trouble getting one of the lugs off subsequently problems getting the donut on. And then the donut was flat.......ARGH!

I finally made it home about made it home about 2:15 am, when the comedy show was over at 11 pm. So I was up early Sunday morning in an attempt to get the tire fixed, so I headed to Sears where I was told the tire stud was broken and they couldn't fix it until Monday when the brake guy comes in. I then went to NTW and they couldn't do anything because it was Sunday and their parts run was done for the day. They put the tire on, but an hour later something else went awfully wrong and the car had to be towed to NTW.

Today I picked my car up to the tune of $208, of course they found other stuff to charge me for. But I have my car back, so I'm mobile again............

And now I'm sitting debating where I'll watch the inaugural ceremony tomorrow.

Yeah, it's been a minute

Hey there blog world, yeah it's been a minute since I posted (something of substance). Well last weekend was pretty busy for me. One of my cousins had an adult toy party (ladies only) so Friday and most of Saturday I was busy running around in preparation for that. And it went nicely Saturday night. She had a nice turn out, with plenty orders.

Sunday, Hubby and I packed and headed up to Deep Creek lake. His birthday was Monday, and I'd suggested skiing a few times in the past so it was time to make that suggestion a reality. We stayed at the Suites at Silver Tree. Our room was really quaint and had the amenities we needed. He finally got a chance to take ski lessons and ski at Wisp ski resort. I'm not into outdoor activities, so he was on his own for skiing. But I did go snow tubing, and my face liked to have froze off. I'll admit that is was indeed fun.

His birthday dinner was at this really nice place that I've recommended to friends already. The name of the place is Cornish Manor. We found the place in the hotel advertisement. And it was really a charming place and the food was DELICIOUS! I can't stop raving about the giant crab cakes I had. Just thinking about them has me yearning for one. So if you are ever in the deep creek lake vicinity, please do stop in for either lunch or dinner. No other food places are worth mentioning since we dined at the Cornish Manor.

We headed back home Wednesday. It was snowing and we had to get a tire plugged and full the tank up before we actually got on the road.

All in all it was a good trip.

So it back to work for the both of us Thursday. And now it's Saturday and I'm playing at home beautician. I'm headed out tonight for a little comedy show at Arundel Mills. And then tomorrow I have a family meeting. Not sure if I'll do any more partying this long weekend. I'd really like to read a book during this down time.

At any rate, I think I need to check on my hair.........hope you are enjoying your weekend.

Discussion Questions on a book: Strongholds by Vanessa Davis Griggs

These are some of the discussion questions at the end of the book:


Which character(s) did you identify and/or empathize with the most? Why?
I’m not sure if I would fully identify with any of the characters. But if I had to choose it would be Desiree and Edwin because of their marital issues. Although hubby and I don’t readily have the same strongholds (Desiree – eating and Edwin – gambling) we do have our issues with communication.

Fatima Adams seemed to have a difficult time overcoming how she felt about Darius Connors. Do you think things could have been easier than she made them to be? What should she have done to get past her strong feelings for him?

I’m not sure if there were any additional things Fatima might have been able to do to make the break up easier on her, break ups are difficult in general. Although I would have changed my phone number since Darius was insistent on calling and leaving messages.

Was Bentley wrong in what he said to his wife about the books she read as well as the television shows she watched? Was he even justified in bringing it up?
Bentley was correct in the statement he made to his wife (Marcella) about the books she reads and his addiction to p-graphy (and not photography). I’m sure if you ask any woman that reads that type of fiction if they would consider it p-graphy and that would say no. In fact, until I read this book I would probably say no. But after reading how Pastor Landris broke it down to those words bringing images to the mind and causes some to use their imagination, I can understand why he felt justified in bringing it up.

Is there a difference in what Bentley was doing as opposed to what Marcella was doing? Why or why not?
I don’t think there’s too much of a difference in what Bentley physically sees and what Marcella reads. To put it plain and simple one uses words and the other are those words acted out.

In your opinion do you feel overeating should be included as a stronghold? Why or why not?
I’m abit indifferent on this, I can see how overeating would seem harmless to anyone, but I can also see why it is considered a stronghold. A stronghold in that some people find it a hard habit to break which takes away from their body being a temple God gave them.

What are your views regarding a person who works as much as Dr. Holden was? In your opinion, should working too much be considered a stronghold?
I think Dr. Holden was justified in his reasoning for working so much in that he wanted to provide for his family’s every need and want. But as his wife Avis pointed out, those material things mean nothing if he’s not there to share them. And yeah working too much can be considered a stronghold in that it took Dr. Holden away from what mattered most, spending time with his family.

Arletha Brown was said to be extremely religious. Is there such a think as being too religious or overly religiously? Discuss.
I’m not sure about Arletha’s situation. While I can understand her plight for perfection and getting into heaven, she really went over board. She was more concerned with her getting in and her path that she didn't see fit to help anyone else along the way. And she didn't believe in the church changing with times.

I think as time changes so should how the church operates and minsters to people. Churches want to recruit people, but what are they doing to ensure those people recruited establish and maintain a relationship with the church.


If you had to choose a sin or stronghold from this book as the biggest sin or stronghold, which would you choose and why?

I think it would be a tie between Bentley and his obsession with p_graphy and Edwin and his gambling habits. Both are really hard habits to break and require constant work towards breaking. Both can do serious harm to a marriage if left unresolved.

Do you believe any of the characters should have continued to struggle with their strongholds considering they came to the altar and were prayed for by a man of God? Why or why not?

As Pastor Landris pointed out, bad habits take work in breaking. And while admitting you have a problem is a good start, one must constant seek to break that habit to change your circumstance.


Was Pastor Landris wrong for not counseling each person in his congregation no matter how long it took him to get to them? Explain.
I believe Pastor Landris or Johnnie Mae rather, was correct in pointing out that the pastor could not be everywhere every time a member needs his assistance. The same philosophy for any regular business or organization would apply here in that the CEO can’t possibly do everything. The CEO is supposed to be the face and the one leading those he has put in place to help ensure that the company is ran effectively and efficiently.

As Johnnie Mae also pointed out it would be feasible for him to meet with each congregation member if the church was small, but once the congregation grows to over 200 I think it abit too much to of pastors to meet with each and every member of a mega church. Consider for the moment TD Jake and his church the Potter’s house. The website mentions about 30k members, imagine if you will TD Jakes shaking every hand after just one service, he’d be there well into Sunday evening.

Not too mention the pastor had a family, growing family that warranted some of his time.

Discuss Daruis Connors and his various actions. Do you believe he was sincere in his feelings toward Fatima? Do you feel bad for him at all?

I think Darius was looking for something extra to have on the side. I don’t think he had any intentions on ever leaving his wife and would have continued the affair with Fatima as long as Fatima saw fit to continue. It’s hard to say whether or not he was sincere in his feelings toward Fatima, his actions (constant phone calls and her birthday surprise) certainly would lead one to believe he was sincere. I do feel bad for Daruis because he’s caught up in a web of deceit, he doesn’t respect his wife or the life they’ve built together.

What do you think is going on with Trinity (Faith, Hope, and Charity)? Do you believe people can truly have multiple personalities or do you believe it's merely something they're just making up?
It’s hard to speak on multiple personalities because I’ve never encountered anyone with multiple personalities, at least not that I know of. But as mentioned it could very well be a defense mechanism that shields from a bad personal experience as with Trinity. So, no I don’t think it’s something that is made up, not that it can’t happen. I am not sure what to make of what’s going on with Trinity. The answer might have been provided in that tablet Faith wrote in during the last session with Dr. Holden.

I'm sure it's kind of hard to get the gist of the book from just the few questions I answered. I would recommend the book to friends as a good read. I would, however point out that this is one of three books with stories connected, and I think this was the second book of which I accidentally finished reading first. The first of the trilogy is Blessed Trinity and the end of the trilogy is Memory Serves. I'm currently reading Blessed Trinity with plans to read Memory Serves next.

Semester break *update*

So here’s a list of items I’d wanted to do during my 5 week semester break:


· I need to have someone come out and give me an estimate on replacing the carpet in the living room and possibly the stairs. - still working on

· Watch the second season of Dexter - one episode left

· Watch the second season of CSI (the original) - done

· Purchase a new ceiling fan and have installed - still working on

· Get an estimate for window replacement - still working on

· Read at least 3 books - done



2 out of six completed not bad........but since school actually start up again until February 2, so I have a little more time. And with that extended I plan to read some more books and just relax some. Maybe I'll treat myself to a massage or a spa treatment. I'll be sure to make the best of the additional two weeks I have, because I think I'll take two classes this spring semester.

At least I didn't sit around doing nothing.

Guess what I got......ok, I know you don't feel up to the guessing, at any rate I go to check my yahoo e-mail, (I only check it twice a day, I'm more on g-mail than anything) at any rate I checks my e-mail and there's an e-mail from my professor from the class I just took, remember this post. Well I'm all shaking in my boots thinking now what. And this is the content of the e-mail:

Evening TV and pondering

Last night I was watching Private Practice as usual. And one of the story lines was this woman that had three school aged boys. The older son was autistic and the other two were fine. They had been in Switzerland for the past two years and recently came back. The middle son caught a “cold” says the mother while in the airport. Well upon examination it is determined that the boy has measles.

The doctor suggests vaccination for the youngest son who hasn’t had the vaccine. The older son got the vaccinated and the mother believes that’s what caused his autism. So she refuses to allow the youngest son to get the vaccine. The doctor informs her of the additional health problems that could occur if the child is does not receive the vaccine.
The son with the measles later died.

At any rate, it got me to thinking or pondering this question:

Would you prefer to die from medicine or lack of medicine?

Here’s a hypothetical scenario: doctors tell you, you’ve contracted some disease but they aren’t sure exactly how to treat it. They run thru the laundry list of solutions, but nothing points to an all out cure. One of those listed items might work, but then it might cause death. Would you prefer them to administer the medicine or would you hold out for a definitive cure?

Fwd: The Old Phone On The Wall

A friend forwarded this to me. It's abit long, but rather interesting.

When I was quite young, my father had one of the first telephones in our neighborhood. I remember the polished, old case fastened to the wall.

The shiny receiver hung on the side of the box. I was too little to reach the telephone, but used to listen with fascination when my mother talked to it.

Then I discovered that somewhere inside the wonderful device lived an amazing person. Her name was 'Information Please' and there was nothing she did not know. Information Please could supply anyone's number and the correct time.

My personal experience with the genie-in-a-bottle came one day while my mother was visiting a neighbor. Amusing myself at the tool bench in the basement, I whacked my finger with a hammer, the pain was terrible, but there seemed no point in crying because there was no one home to give sympathy.

I walked around the house sucking my throbbing finger, finally arriving at the stairway. The telephone! Quickly, I ran for the footstool in the parlor and dragged it to the landing. Climbing up, I unhooked the receiver in the parlor and held it to my ear. 'Information, please' I said into the mouthpiece just above my head.

A click or two and a small clear voice spoke into my ear.

'Information.'

'I hurt my finger...' I wailed into the phone, the tears came readily enough now that I had an audience.

'Isn't your mother home?' came the question.

'Nobody's home but me,' I blubbered.

'Are you bleeding?' the voice asked.

'No,' I replied. 'I hit my finger with the hammer and it hurts.'

'Can you open the icebox?' she asked.

I said I could.

'Then chip off a little bit of ice an d hold it to your finger,' said the voice.

After that, I called 'Information Please' for everything. I asked her for help with my geography, and she told me where Philadelphia was. She helped me with my math.

She told me my pet chipmunk that I had caught in the park just the day before, would eat fruit and nuts.

Then, there was the time Petey, our pet canary, died. I called,

Information Please,' and told her the sad story. She listened, and then said things grown-ups say to soothe a child. But I was not consoled. I asked her, 'Why is it that birds should sing so beautifully and bring joy to all families, only to end up as a heap of feathers on the bottom of a cage?'

She must have sensed my deep concern, for she said quietly, ' Wayne always remember that there are other worlds to sing in.'

Somehow I felt better.

Another day I was on the telephone, 'Information Please.'

'Information,' said in the now familiar voice. 'How do I spell fix?' I asked.

All this took place in a small town in the Pacific Northwest. When I was nine years old, we moved across the country to Boston. I missed my friend very much. 'Information Please' belonged in that old wooden box back home and I somehow never thought of trying the shiny new phone that sat on the table in the hall. As I grew into my teens, the memories of those childhood conversations never really left me.

Often, in moments of doubt and perplexity I would recall the serene sense of security I had then. I appreciated now how patient, understanding, and kind she was to have spent her time on a little boy.

A few years later, on my way west to college, my plane put down in Seattle. I had about a half-hour or so between planes. I spent 15 minutes or so on the phone with my sister, who lived there now. Then without thinking what I w as doing, I dialed my hometown operator and said, 'Information Please.'

Miraculously, I heard the small, clear voice I knew so well.

'Information.'

I hadn't planned this, but I heard myself saying, 'Could you please tell me how to spell fix?'

There was a long pause. Then came the soft spoken answer, 'I guess your finger must have healed by now.'

I laughed, 'So it's really you,' I said. 'I wonder if you have any idea how much you meant to me during that time?'

I wonder,' she said, 'if you know how much your call meant to me.

I never had any children and I used to look forward to your calls.'

I told her how often I had thought of her over the years and I asked if I could call her again when I came back to visit my sister.

'Please do', she said. 'Just ask for Sally.'

Three months later I was back in Seattle. A different voice answered,

'Information' I asked for Sally.

'Are you a friend?' she said.

'Yes, a very old friend,' I answered.

'I'm sorry to have to tell you this,' she said. 'Sally had been working part-time the last few years because she was sick. She died five weeks ago.'

Before I could hang up she said, 'Wait a minute, did you say your name was Wayne?' 'Yes.' I answered.

'Well, Sally left a message for you. She wrote it down in case you called.

Let me read it to you.'

The note said, 'Tell him there are other worlds to sing in.

He'll know what I mean.'

I thanked her and hung up. I knew what Sally meant.

Half a work day in Waldorf, MD

So my supervisor came in and asked if I would be interested in doing inventory at the warehouse where our books are housed. I asked where and for how long and if I’d have to come back to work after completing the task. He said the task would only take a couple of hours, so I’d still have to come in the office for the rest of the day.

The advantage to this is I’ve shown initiative in grasping a better understanding over a portion of what I’m accounting for and I get sometime away from the office on their dime. But, and of course there’s always a but, I have to be there at 9 am.

I’m not sure if you are familiar with 495 (Maryland beltway) but rush hour is terrible. And Southbound can be the pits. I’d have to get on the beltway and drive roughly about 4 or 5 exits. And while that might not seem to be problematic, as I said rush hour is a mess. That drive on the beltway can take anywhere from 20 minutes on up to an hour depending on the crazies and/or what’s going on. And not only that after I take the exit off the beltway, I’d still have a ways to go………..ways as in maybe 35 minutes of additional driving. But at least the latter part will be against traffic.

At any rate this is where I am today……….

Long weekend recap

I so really needed a long weekend, and boy did I make use of it. I don’t even think I can remember all I did, or didn’t do……..LOL

Let’s see Thursday I took my little cousin to return a game we purchased for his play station 2 that wasn’t working correctly. And then we went to Tarjay and the grocery store. I found this recipe for lemon cupcakes that I wanted to try and make, so after dropping him off, I went home to commence with baking you those cupcakes and a red velvet cake. Can I just say the frosting for the cupcakes was so delicious…….it consisted of cream cheese, powder sugar and lemon juice……..it had this really nice subtle lemon zest, yummy. Oh, and they had a DS, of which they allowed me to take home, I was up til 3:30 am playing sudoku. That game is so addictive, especially if it’s electronic.

Friday I headed to my aunt’s house, to take the cupcakes and cake over there and sat around with them playing Wii and the DS. I took my cousin over another cousin’s house to get her hair done and then we went to Bowie to run a few errands and then headed back on our side of town. I was there until about 10 pm.

Saturday was yet another day at my aunt’s house with my cousins. We played more Wii and I helped one of the cousins with his math homework. Those packets to schools send home over the break with the kids are no joke…….had me scratching my head and wishing I were near a computer with internet access. And by the time I left that same cousin was too through with me and no longer wanted my assistance because I refused to allow him to record the answers he guessed without showing how he got those answers………….

Yesterday, well I was supposed to go to church. My little cousin was being baptized, but I over sleep and missed that. I lounged around the house until about 4 and headed up to Laurel for a crabcake and some crab dip. The crabcake was good, but the dip was too rich for my taste buds. After that I headed yet again to Tarjay, can you tell I like this store, to pick up a few plastic totes to organize my extra room.

As mentioned in my previous post, the night ended with me staying up later than I planned watching CSI Miami episodes.

1st work day of the New Year

I planned to be in bed asleep by 11 pm last night. But what had happened was that darn C. S. I. Miami……….although I prefer the original show, the 11 pm episode caught my attention and like wise for the 12am show. So guess who didn’t get to sleep until after 1 am……..yep me.

I was up early this morning tossing and turning and then the alarm finally went off at 7:20. But I stayed in the bed for 10 more minutes. And of course that had a ripple effect and instead of being out the door at 8:15 as I planned I didn’t get in the car until 8:30. Oh well, I was still here before my supervisor. Better luck tomorrow?????

Vacation photo album complete

I'd been on the hunt for a photo album for all the pictures we took while Mexico this past November. I finally found one that was too feminine at Ross and it only cost me six dollars. Wow what a savings. Well I gave the task of putting said photos in the album to hubby, and well you know how that is: If you want something done, do it yourself.

At any rate, I took the time today to go thru the camera and put the pictures in order then put them in the photo album. YAY ME!

I'm gonna get organized in 2009. Next up is to remove the clutter from my car........in fact let me go do that now. Maybe I'll even take my car to the car wash........

I am so loving this extra day off.

First lesson of 09

The first lesson of 09 (or the last lesson of 08 which ever way you want to look at it) that I learned is this:



I can NOT wash, set my hair on rollers, and dry my hair in two hours.



After the movie yesterday I got home with a plan to wash and style my hair for the gathering I was attending. My hopes were to be at the gathering by 10:30. But I didn't leave the house until about 10:45 and the drive was at least 35 minutes away. I didn't get there until 11:30.

$8 matinee????

I finally got a chance to go see Will Smith’s new movie 7lbs. My intentions were to go in DC, up the street from my job. But I wound up staying at work longer than I anticipated yesterday which caused me to go to the movies on my side of town.

At any rate, I didn’t know the price of a matinee was eight bucks. Geesh, how much is regular admission? Yeah I’ve been to the movies recently, but I guess I never really paid much attention to the admission price. I was thinking the matinee price was more like $6. At any rate that trip to the movies cost about $15; can't go tot he movies and not purchase popcorn.

I really liked the movie, and I won’t give it away by providing any details, or too many details. But it does have me pondering this question:

Would you want someone to love you so much that they could not live without you, subsequently committing suicide upon your death?

On one hand, I would want that kind of love. Someone that makes decision based on if and how it might affect me. Who wouldn't want someone that puts you before them? Someone that aims to please me at their every waking moment. Ok, maybe I'd get abit crazy at some point. But hey, I wouldn't pass up the option at least for a short span of time.



But on the hand I am reminded of something my grandmother said to me recently, in that you shouldn’t love anyone more than you love GOD. And that GOD should be the center of your relationship with your spouse.

I just asked Hubby and his response is: “No, I guess I’d prefer to have someone that is happy with them to want to keep on living.” And that makes sense as well.
Again, I liked the movie and thought it was very thought provoking and has me reflecting on things. I must caution you that is a long movie, I think about 2 hours. And don’t make the mistake of going to a theater where rowdy people frequent, like I did. This young couple TALKED the entire time. I wanted to ask them why they came to the movies. And at one point in the movie they actually laughed at something that happened, and from their response (laughter) I gathered that they were young. It was not a funny moment at all.
